BC Data
A free MCP server and REST API for British Columbia public data. Every answer cites the government source it came from.
BC Data serves public data from British Columbia to AI apps and to your own code. Ask about election results, provincial and federal laws, Statistics Canada numbers and open data sets, and get answers with a link to the source, the date it was checked and its licence.
It is an independent project by vwork Digital. It is not run by the Province of British Columbia.
Two ways in
Both read the same data, with the same answers and the same citations.
| Address | Best for | |
|---|---|---|
| MCP server | https://api.bcmcp.ca/mcp | Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and other MCP clients |
| REST API | https://api.bcmcp.ca/v1 | Scripts, apps and anything that speaks HTTP |
Both need an API key. A key is free. Sign up with your name, your email and whether you live in B.C., then enter the six digit code we email you. There are no passwords.
Where to start
- Quickstart: sign up, make a key, make your first call.
- Authentication: how to send the key.
- Connect an MCP client: Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, and what ChatGPT and claude.ai can and cannot do today.
- Rate limits: 30 cost units a minute and 600 a day for each key, and how to ask for more.
- Citations and freshness: what every answer carries.
- Reference: every REST endpoint and every MCP tool.
